The best facial cleansing routine
Teresa de Miguel Miró
Thanks to constant emphasis from specialists and the media, we are sure that 90% of women already know that it is the most important beauty step, that it must be done twice a day, and that toner is essential for the best facial cleansing routine you can do.
They may not always do it, but when they skip it, at least they have a 'skin guilt' and that's already a lot.
On the other hand, we also know that there are women obsessed with this practice, which they've elevated to a ritual, who obediently follow the Korean double cleansing method morning and night and invest extra money—and time!—in the pursuit of perfect skin through cleansing. Is it necessary?
At Beldon, we strongly advocate for facial cleansing as the first essential step in any beauty routine —whether you wear makeup or not—but we also understand the daily challenges and believe it's more important to find the right product for your skin type and use it correctly before adding steps you might not always be able to manage. And yes, using a toner or essence afterward isn't just a nice touch, it's a must.
WHY DO YOU NEED TO CLEANSE YOUR SKIN TWICE A DAY?
Has anyone told you what happens to your skin if it's not properly cleansed? Well, let's find out:
- It suffocates and cannot breathe, so the light only shines by its absence and the surface remains opaque and dull.
- Dirt clogs pores and condenses in them, making them more visible, whether you have oily skin or not.
- The accumulation of makeup residue, toxins, or environmental dirt creates a 'barrier' and, by covering the skin, prevents cosmetic treatments from penetrating and doing their job.
- You will age faster. Skin that doesn't breathe properly lacks the strength to fight the passage of time.
Twice a day is the minimum, and don't make the mistake of thinking that just because you don't wear makeup you don't need to. Just try it: go out with a bare face for a few hours, come home, and wipe your face with a cotton pad… What color is it? That's why we're going to tell you the best facial cleansing routine, step by step.
HOW DO YOU PROPERLY USE EACH MAKEUP REMOVER?
We understand that there are still questions about cleansing products. Should micellar water be rinsed off with water? Should you wet your skin before applying a cleansing milk? There are more and more options available, and each texture or presentation requires a specific protocol.
GEL MAKEUP REMOVER
Always apply to a previously moistened face. A pea-sized amount is enough for the entire face. Massage gently—without rubbing!—and then rinse.
MAKEUP REMOVER OIL
The first thing to do is break the myth that they're only suitable for dry skin. Quite the opposite. Oil eats oil, and two drops are enough.
In this case, it should be applied to a dry face, eyes, and lips. Massage it in and then rinse. If you have very dry skin, you can remove the product with a cotton pad and skip the water.
CLEANSING MILK
The amount of product should be about the size of a hazelnut and should be spread over a dry face, eyes, and lips. It's best to remove the product with a cotton pad after massaging it in well, or with water.
CLEANSING FOAM
It should always be applied to a damp face. Gently massage it in to allow it to work its magic, then rinse with water. The perfect amount is about the size of a walnut.
Micellar Water
Apply directly to a dry face using a cotton pad. Be careful not to rub; instead, gently pat the face, as the micelles attract dirt like a magnet. There's no need to rinse with water.
WIPES
They should be reserved for emergencies or travel. Glide them over a dry face, being careful not to apply too much pressure. They do not need to be rinsed off.
SOLID CLEANERS
They're the newcomers and the ones that cause the most confusion. Ideally, you should lightly dampen your skin beforehand so they lather better, and rub it between your wet hands for about four seconds until you get the necessary amount.
