The best routine for hand care
Teresa de Miguel Miró
Our hands are the result of complex evolutionary engineering. They speak their own language, are our precise and essential "tools," constitute a channel of communication for our emotions to the outside world, and give us the sense of touch.
Despite all this, and more, they're the eternally forgotten ones on our vanity. And now they need more help than ever. What's the best hand care routine?
Our hands should receive the same care as our face, neck, and décolleté. Their epidermis, comparable in fragility, is exposed to the same exposome : sun, tobacco, cold, pollution…; to which are added other specific factors: friction, contact with water, unsuitable soaps, and hydroalcoholic gels, which make them even more vulnerable. Furthermore, a lower number of sebaceous glands contributes to loss of density and elasticity, premature aging, and the appearance of sunspots (dark spots). When we talk about cosmetic care, we often say that the face ends where the décolleté does, but in reality, it extends all the way to the hands.

THE BEST HAND CARE ROUTINE
GUIDELINES
- Delicate hygiene
Use natural soaps, without detergents or perfumes; and in just the right amount, without excess. An aggressive soap won't clean better but will destroy the hydrolipidic film, our skin barrier; and that will make us more prone to irritations, contact dermatitis, and bacterial infections.
We don't need antibacterial soaps for daily use. Covid-19 is caused by a virus, not bacteria.
- Avoid hot or excessively cold water. Proper hygiene is achieved through thorough washing, not with a higher temperature.
Dry your hands by gently patting them with a towel, gauze, or (because sometimes there's no other option) paper towel, paying special attention to the spaces between your fingers. Rubbing doesn't dry them better, it only irritates them more.
Hydroalcoholic gels deserve a separate mention. No one doubts that their use is necessary, but they are devastating for our skin.
- Avoid those containing perfume. We don't need another corrosive agent.
Ideally, we should wash our hands AFTER using hand sanitizer to remove any physical residue left after the alcohol evaporates. And then moisturize them thoroughly. Unfortunately, this isn't always possible. What we can do is moisturize immediately after using the gel. If you already carry your hand sanitizer with you everywhere, follow it with an emollient cream. Your hands will thank you.
- Gloves
- Wear gloves if your professional activity requires it. The WHO estimates that the incidence of eczema among healthcare professionals has increased by 50% in recent months due to even more thorough hygiene measures.
- Also in tasks that involve exposure to external agents: cleaning, gardening, handling machinery and some sports practices.
- Nitrile or powder-free latex gloves are preferred over vinyl gloves, which are permeable. If rubber gloves must be used, it is recommended to wear cotton gloves underneath to reduce excessive sweating. Prolonged moisture can lead to dermatitis or worsen eczema.
- Protect your hands from the cold. Gloves are necessary when temperatures drop.
Apply a suitable moisturizing mask, put on cotton gloves, and sleep with them on. You'll wake up with completely different hands.
- Exfoliation
- Gentle weekly exfoliation is essential. The more flaking occurs due to dryness, the more necessary good epidermal renewal becomes.
- Hydration
Start with what's important: the inside. Drink 1.5 to 2.5 liters of water a day. Because beauty comes from the inside out, not the other way around.
- Moisturizing with suitable products is essential and should be repeated throughout the day. Don't wait until you notice the slightest dryness in your hands, much less until they are parchment-like or cracked.
Keep your moisturizer close at hand. At the office, in the car, in your bag, on your nightstand… A routine is created by overcoming laziness. Make it easy for yourself.
- At night, with or without gloves, alternate your treatment cream with an oil and specific masks. This will ensure you provide all kinds of nutrients while protecting your nails and cuticles.
- Sun Protection
If there's one thing readers of this blog already know, it's that sun protection is the foundation of anti-aging prevention and that its use is essential 365 days a year. Hopefully, we'll have it so ingrained in us that we wouldn't dream of leaving the house without applying our favorite sunscreen to our face. Very good. But why do we forget about our hands?
The hands and neck are perfect indicators of a person's biological age. The hands suffer continuous sun exposure, generally without proper protection, which accelerates photoaging that manifests as:
- Dryness and roughness
- Weakening of fibroblasts with the consequent loss of flexibility and resistance
- Difficulty in the production of collagen and elastin
- Wrinkles and furrows
- Melanocyte destabilization. Appearance of solar lentigines.
It is true that with "hand creams" we deal with two drawbacks:
- The memory of those that never finished being absorbed and left an unpleasant feeling of grease and residue.
- And now, the need to maintain frequent hand hygiene forces us to reapply protection with equivalent frequency.
Fortunately, cosmetic research has resulted in products that no longer require a choice because they have it all! Hypoallergenic, toxin-free, fragrance-free, highly moisturizing, regenerating, and soothing formulas, suitable for very sensitive or atopic skin, and with sun protection factor. Cutting-edge technology for complete antioxidant protection and quick drying that provides comfort and encourages what's important: making frequent hand moisturizing a habit.
- Manicure
The goal of a good manicure isn't purely aesthetic. Nails protect the last phalanges of the fingers, and their health is important. At Beldon Beauty, we believe that beauty begins from within. A diet rich in fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables will provide the vitamins and minerals necessary to strengthen the keratin in our nails. Specifically:
- Vitamin A: tomato, red pepper, asparagus, carrot.
- Vitamin B: nuts, brewer's yeast, vegetables.
- Vitamin C: green pepper, citrus fruits, kiwi.
- Biotin: oats, barley, soy.
- Minerals (calcium, zinc, iodine, iron): nuts, sesame, seaweed, legumes, vegetables.
- Indiba
Whether we want to prevent or reverse damage that is already evident, we have the solution.
Due to their unique morphology and epidermal fragility, the hands are not particularly easy to treat. Receptive but not very responsive to general care, Indiba 's monopolar radiofrequency technology achieves spectacular rejuvenation visible from the first session.
The protocol is seemingly simple: after an exquisitely gentle cleansing and exfoliation, Indiba is applied to the palm and back of the hand, as well as the phalanges, interdigital spaces, wrist and forearm.
Our hands are among the areas with the most nerve endings in the human body. This, combined with muscles that work tirelessly, means that the Indiba current produces a profound relaxing and analgesic effect.
The protocol concludes with the application of moisturizing, nourishing, soothing, and depigmenting products through a soothing manual massage. Indiba acts as an electroporator, optimizing their penetration. A personalized diagnosis will determine which active ingredients and in what proportion will be used in each individual case.
One session is enough to notice significant changes in skin hydration, elasticity, and radiance. Continued treatment effectively reverses premature photoaging and loss of epidermal density.

The success of an effective hand care routine lies in incorporating formulas adapted to your needs and tastes that will help make consistency a pleasure, not a problem.
Few things are more therapeutic than being in the hands of highly trained professionals with extensive experience and a passion for their work. Put your hands in ours.
