Interview with

Álvaro Poyato

founder of POYDEL

Biography

Álvaro María Poyato Delgado, founder of POYDEL, discovered his passion for fashion at a young age, observing and discussing women's outfits with his mother. With a clear vocation from a young age, he studied fashion design at the Francisco de Vitoria University and worked with renowned names such as Adolfo Domínguez and Sociedad Textil Lonia, where he gained experience in the luxury sector.
In 2013, he launched his own label, POYDEL, after designing his first guest dress. Today, Álvaro leads his atelier in Madrid, creating high-quality, handcrafted fashion, supported by his team and his husband Gonzalo, his confidant and a fundamental pillar in his career.

About Álvaro

Have you always been passionate about fashion? What role do craftsmanship and your origins play in your creations?

Although it might sound like a cliché, the truth is that I've had a great interest in fashion since I was very young. My mother always remembers how I would observe the way the women around her dressed and then discuss the details with her. As for craftsmanship, it's fundamental to everything we do at Poydel. Each piece is handmade, and the cultural traditions, both from my background and from all over Spain, are an endless source of inspiration. We live in a country rich in culture and traditions, which is a true treasure for those of us who work in the fashion industry.

“I love dedicating myself to our clients in a personalized way, while maintaining the essence of the workshop.”

What is a Poydel woman like?

The Poydel woman is stylish and enjoys the process of creating a bespoke garment. She values our advice and follows our recommendations, guaranteeing a final look that reflects her personal style without losing its authenticity.

What has been the greatest achievement of your career or project?

Without a doubt, our greatest achievement is being able to welcome our wonderful clients to the workshop every day. Reaching this level of trust and satisfaction with our work has been the result of much effort, and each encounter is a reminder of how fortunate we are to do what we love.

What are your future plans for your project?

This is where Gonzalo and I sometimes differ. He, with his entrepreneurial spirit, is always looking to expand and explore new lines of business. In my case, I feel completely satisfied with what we've built and I love dedicating myself to our clients in a personalized way, while maintaining the essence of the workshop.

“Sometimes it’s a gesture, an expression, or even the texture of the skin that makes the difference and gives them an unmistakable style.”

Relationship with beauty:

What is beauty to you and how do you experience it in your daily routine?

Beauty is an essential part of how we present ourselves to the world, just like a good pair of shoes or a spectacular dress. In my daily life, beauty is present both personally and professionally, but perhaps more so in my work, since every day women come into the atelier and we strive to make them feel and look beautiful.

What or who inspires you in your day-to-day life?

I'm inspired by women who have "something" special, those who radiate elegance naturally, without excess or embellishment. Sometimes it's a gesture, an expression, or even the texture of their skin that makes the difference and gives them an unmistakable style.

Who are your beauty icons?

Caroline of Monaco and her daughter Charlotte of Monaco. Both possess a classic beauty that has evolved admirably over the years. They are a perfect example of how a woman can age gracefully and stylishly.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

The best advice I've ever received is to maintain my pristine appearance, both inside and out. A consistent skincare routine and ensuring my internal balance are key to feeling good.

Beauty Questionnaire:

What is your skincare routine?

My routine varies depending on the season. In summer, I increase my use of creams due to sun exposure, but I always include facial cleansing both morning and night, eye cream , sunscreen during the day, and moisturizer at night.

A foolproof trick or product:

Getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water, and using a good moisturizer. These are my three infallible pillars for maintaining healthy skin.

How do you take care of your beauty from the inside out?

I only recently discovered this, but I think it's essential. Feeling good on the inside is key to looking good on the outside, and finding the right therapy to deal with stress is fundamental. I already have mine.

Is there anything left for you to learn or try in the beauty world?

So many things! Although I'm an expert in the textile world, I still have so much to discover in the beauty industry. I still need to keep learning and perfecting my skills in this field.

What are your favorite beauty treatments?

What I love most about Beldon is that they personalize every treatment. To put it in my own words, it's very similar to what we do in our workshop with our bespoke dresses. Ultimately, it's a huge advantage to know that what they offer is specifically tailored to your needs and preferences, and the final result is truly exceptional.
